University of Glasgo with the missionaries
The missionaries are so fun to hang out with! It's been awesome getting to know them. They love sharing the message of the gospel of Jesus Christ with everyone they meet and inviting them to come to church. Last Sunday there were 34 new friends that came to church from the missionaries inviting them to come. We continue to help them teach people from all over the world. We met people from Italy, Honduras, China, ect. Today a husband and wife were baptized from El Salvador. The baptismal service was in Spanish. They have a Sunday School class that is for the Spanish speakers at church every Sunday.
We went to our first zone conference in Edinburgh this past week and were so happy to be able to finally meet our mission leaders President and Sister Randall. They are amazing! They have been super busy and are always traveling from city to city in Ireland and Scotland. Elder Aidukaitis of the seventy and his wife spoke at the zone conference. They were very inspirational along with the Randalls. It was especially fun to visit with the other senior couples that came to zone conference.
After zone conference, we were able to meet up with Stuart's high school friend, Mitch Jelly, who lives in Edinburgh. It was great to go to dinner with him and catch up on what he's been up to for the last 43 years since he came to our wedding in 1982!
Stuart and I have been reaching out to members of the church about preparing to go to the temple as well as helping them with their family history. It is super rewarding helping people learn about their ancestors and see them get so excited about it.
Nele, the cat, loved all the attention Stuart gave her, while I was teaching Angela about her family history.
No, we didn't have surgery as in an operation, but we went to the doctor's office or surgery as they call it in Scotland. As a senior missionary couple, the church asks us to sign up with a GP (general practitioner). In order to sign-up, we have to register as a new patient with a doctor. Then they require you to come in for an appointment. They ask about your medical history, check blood pressure, etc. It was funny when we went to our doctor's appointment, just a 10 minute walk from our flat, there was a sign posted on the door that said "surgery closed from 1-1:30 pm." Luckily, we didn't have to have a surgery in order to get into to see the doctor!
Speaking of surgery, we are SO SO grateful that our grandson, Dalton was able to finally go home after being at the hospital for 8 day after his surgery! Hurray!!
Dalton made it home at last!
We were able to find a little bit of time to go see a few cool places this past week.
The Kelpies - 30 meter tall, metal horse heads. Pretty awesome place.
The Linlithgow Palace from the 12th century is the birthplace of Mary, Queen of Scots. Though the roof is gone, it was definitely worth the visit. The grounds are amazing.
We'd love to find out if Stuart is related to Mary Stuart, Queen of Scots. He has lots of Stewart relatives which were from Scotland, so we are hoping to find a connection. We'll keep you posted if we do!
